Trey A. Valentine is an avid athlete who plays competitive junior golf.  He is currently enrolled in the seventh grade at Alice Drive Middle School where he has maintained “Honor Roll” status throughout the year.

Trey was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 9, 1993 to Fletcher and Elizabeth Valentine. Throughout his young life, he was an outgoing child who was always looking to find the next challenge. He played all the childhood sports to include soccer and basketball and was always a shining star.  He seemed to have a rare, competitive edge that most children do not posses at such a young age.  His natural ability to excel in sports became evident after he received a Fisher Price junior golf set for his second Christmas.  He took to them quickly and seemed to master the “eye-hand” coordination needed to hit a golf ball. It was soon after, that his dad had a set of adult clubs cut down to his size from the local sports consignment shop.

Trey moved several times in his young life and by 1996-he left Biloxi and moved to Guam.  His love for the sport grew rapidly and by age 3, he played his first round of golf on Andersen Air Force Base, where he also received his first official lesson from the local pro. Less than one year later he was ready for the next level and was was able to compete in his first junior golf event. Amazingly he placed 12th among 50 other “10 and under” junior golfers and was only 4 years old! It was becoming evident that his desire to play was more than just a phase. To test his skills among his peers, his family traveled over 10, 000 miles across the Pacific Ocean to Quincy, Illinois where he competed and won second place in the Pepsi Little Peoples Junior Golf Championships.  He was proving to be a worthy young competitor and continued to work on his game over the next year as the tropical weather in the Pacific permitted year round practice.  However, as with most military families, a new assignment was inevitable and in 1999, when he was 5 years old, his family moved back to the United States to live in Rapid City, South Dakota. He returned to the “Little Peoples” tournament twice, however, the climate in the mid-west took a toll on his game where he was only able to play golf 4 months out of the year. By age 7, his family moved to Hampton, Virginia where the weather was more conducive to golf. There he became a member of the Newtown Junior Golf Club and after much hard work, he was able to bring his game back to a competitive level and joined the Plantations Junior Golf Tour in 2001. He has maintained a solid game through practice, discipline and perseverance.  He continues to play on the Plantations Junior Golf Tour and finished the 2002 season in the top ten percent of his division while achieving “PJGT All Star” status. In 2005, he finished the year ranked 2nd in his division and was named to the “PJGT 1st Junior All American Team” and finished the 2005 season ranked 2nd. Additionally, as a sixth grader, he was Captain of the Thomas Sumter Academy Varsity Golf Team for the second consecutive year. He is the youngest competitor on the team and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the 2004 and 2005 golf season. His contributions directly led to the team’s success, which earned them 2 consecutive trips to the South Carolina State Golf Championships; a feat not accomplished in 17 years.
